Strategy and Supply Chain: Manufacturing Innovation in Northern Virginia

NCS Technologies holds nexus event for regional industry leaders

Future of Additive ManufacturingNCS Technologies (NCS) recently hosted an exclusive townhall and panel discussion centered on opportunities for advanced manufacturing in Northern Virginia. The event included Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), regional elected officials, academic leaders from George Mason University and Northern Virginian Community College, and fellow representatives from high-tech manufacturing, including Micron and General Dynamics, as well as biomanufacturing start-ups, such as Capra Biosciences.

“Virginia is for innovators! I was glad to meet with leaders in the advanced manufacturing industry to discuss the wealth of opportunities we have here in NOVA to position ourselves as a leader in this space,” tweeted Senator Warner after the event.

This sector-specific event was produced in partnership with the Prince William County Department of Economic Development (PWCDED). In addition to the townhall, which featured questions on relevant trends, opportunities, and challenges in the advanced manufacturing sector, over 80 business and community partner attendees contributed in a panel discussion before participating in a factory tour.

“This event served as a vital platform for knowledge sharing, idea generation, and engagement,” said Christina Winn, executive director, PWCDED. “Prince William County is working to promote advanced manufacturing capabilities that will help power growth opportunities in the region. This event was a significant step in opening opportunities for future partnerships in the industry.”

NCS hosted the event at their new, state-of-the-art 108,000 square-foot energy-efficient headquarters facility in Innovation Park, Manassas. The new headquarters opened in December 2022, and the expansion includes an advanced manufacturing line that quadruples the company’s manufacturing, integration, and 3D printing capacities. The line is one of the largest and most network capable in the Greater Washington D.C. and serves as the foundation for NCS to expand its presence in the pre-provisioned IT asset deployment service market.

“NCS has experienced significant growth over the past few years,” said An Van Nguyen, co-founder and president, NCS. “Our new $20+ million headquarters now operates with tight integration of our entire business operations under one roof, which promotes efficiency, fosters creativity and adds new flexibility, agility, and velocity to our processes.”
